Mirror seals are components consisting of two identical parts manufactured from hard materials such as special steel alloys or even silicon carbide or tungsten carbide. Their friction faces are lapped, similar to those of mechanical seals. Unlike mechanical seals, they do not require additional components except for O-rings, whose function is to provide external sealing in rotary applications where the working environment is extremely demanding and high wear resistance is required. At the same time, these seals provide the closing force necessary to ensure sealing between the friction faces, thus preventing grease leakage or the ingress of particles that could damage the seal or the bearing.

Caratteristiche principali
The rings are designed in such a way that they open outward from the sealing faces towards the shaft, forming a cone-shaped line (vacuum) that provides the following benefits:
-
The lubricant easily reaches the sealing faces through capillary action and centrifugal force.
-
As wear increases, the contact surface moves towards the central shaft. Therefore, the seal has a high wear capacity. The seal is fully worn when the inner diameter is reached.
This is a very simple and robust solution that allows operation under extremely harsh conditions, with high rotational speeds and liquids containing a high load of solid particles.
This type of seal can be found in a wide range of applications: tracked vehicles such as excavators and bulldozers, heavy-duty trucks, agricultural machinery, tunnel boring machines, mixers, agitators, wind turbines, lobe pumps for highly viscous fluids, progressive cavity pumps, etc.
